I looked a beat too long at a young mother and her baby boy at Market Basket yesterday. She was settling him into the seat, and sweet talking in his ear. She might have been me sixteen years ago. She looked up and smiled, and I apologized, explaining that I sometimes really miss those days. We talked together about how the time goes, how she tells her sleepless friends to enjoy the newborn stage, and I agreed, it’s so important to soak in every moment you can. As we parted ways, I laughed, said I was sorry for pouring out my guts in a grocery store, and she smiled and said, “That’s what we do. That’s what Moms do.” What a kind person, what a blessed small moment in time.
